Australia 2007

AUSTRALIA (2007)

Within the top ten sending places of origin, nearly two-thirds of all international students studying in Australia come from Asia. In 2007, China, India, and Malaysia accounted for roughly 47 percent of all international enrollments. Australia in recent years has been one of the top destinations for studying abroad. International students often choose to pursue degrees in business and management, mathematics and computer science. (The figures below do not reflect offshore enrollments.)

Methodolgy & Sources

Australian Education International (AEI) collects information on a monthly basis on all international student enrollments for students on a student visa. AEI covers all sectors – higher education, vocational and technical education, ELICOS and schools. AEI defines an international student as one studying in Australia on a student visa excluding those on scholarships. Enrollments are categorized by nationality. Collected data include information on: gender; field of study; academic level; nationality; type of host institution attended; and degree/qualification/credential awarded.
